Inexperienced Carpentry
I’m working on my MFA at the moment, and I find myself wondering if I’m belaboring the point on some of these things I write. I say the same thing a couple of different times, or a couple of different ways, instead of being as concise or efficient as I should be. This reminds me…
The Sandman Audio-(book? drama?)
I got started with Neil Gaiman’s “Sandman” series in the ’90’s. I didn’t start at the beginning, though. A friend gave me a copy of “Season of Mists”, which was a faux-leather hardback graphic novel. I’ve only recently started working on the craft of writing over the last several years. I had always wanted to give writing a go, and have always absolutely enjoyed well-written stories (and even some poorly written ones, honestly…) and always thought that I might give it a try. So here we are! I don’t know about anyone else, but I never really had any idea where to start with it, so here we are! I’m now wrapping up some formal writing instruction, in the form of a BA in writing and English, and have already been accepted into an MFA program. While I’ve learned tons the last few years, I’m not finished learning, and have some serious work to do on long-form fiction and story structure. At any rate, I’m going to track my writing journey here, on this page! At this moment, I’ve entered a few contests and have sent some stories out for submission, but as of yet, I am unpublished. Once I am, the news will be posted here as well as my twitter account (@cdoakes2) and also on my Facebook’s writer page (c.d.oakes). In the meantime, I’d like to share some thoughts on the things I’m reading and enjoying, and maybe why!
